Treasure Hunting

It was a fun weekend of treasure hunting at Estate Sales. My friend had gone on Friday to one very promising estate sale but the prices were very high. I went on the following day and they had brought their prices down to a reasonable level.

They had a room filled with vintage children's toys. My favorite find was this working, child's Sew-O-Matic Straco sewing machine from the 1950s still in the box. How cool is that!

I also found this adorable paper doll with sewing yarn by Saalfield Pub. co dated 1953.

I found several card games that I will probably use for altered art projects. I love the number tiles in the Lotto game. I also picked up a brand new Scrabble game (tiles are still in their sealed bag) from 1989 plus a tin tambourine to add to my noisemaker collection and a world globe pencil sharpener to add to my world globe collection.

I bought this Little Nipper, Disney Cinderella book/record set copyright 1949. The cover isn't in very good condition but I like Disney items and especially love RCA Victor's Nipper dog.

When I found that the prices were more reasonable, I called my friend and asked her if there was anything she wanted me to pick up for her while I was there. She asked for this vintage, woman's hat. I love the old flowers that wrap around the band. I also bought a long piece of hand-crocheted lace.

It was a super fun weekend of treasure hunting. It is fun to keep adding to collections but I am also gathering useful supplies for future art projects.

  1. I do believe you are the first "noise maker collection" I have ever heard of.
I spent many hours sewing on cards like the one you found. Have to admit it has not turned me into a seamstress.

  6. These are so awesome! I couldn't tell you which is my favorite, the little sew-card kit, or the Sewing Machine. You totally hit the Jackpot like LV said!

I bet the piece of hand crochet lace is amazing too. Since I have a hard time finding that around here, I end up collecting the old books on how to crochet lace, then try to make it (and usually fail, lol)!

  7. Wonderful finds. I had a little red sewing machine as a child. Mine was from the sixties. Love this one!

  12. These are such great finds my head is spinning. I think I had some of those paper dolls, but I think they were a little different, I can't quite picture them. TFS!

  14. Your measuring cups are so neat! And I love the little paper doll with sewing laces. But I think my favorite has to be that toy sewing machine. I'm a shade of green with envy over that.

Oh, and your friend's hat is adorable. I wish that women still wore hats like that. I would love it!
