The Serendipity Sale

serendipitya talent for making fortunate discoveries while searching for other things. — serendipitousadj
We started off with high expectations today. There was an amazing advertised sale but today was the second day so we hoped to find some bargains. We got to the house early and it looked like it was empty. Perhaps it was cleaned out by dealers on the first day. I didn't want to wait around.

We went to the second sale and found a large, messy pile of stuff sitting on the front lawn and no seller in sight. It did not look promising so we left.

I was feeling very disappointed as we drove to the third sale on my list. On the way we saw a sign for an estate sale. We decided to check it out. It turned out to be an estate sale held by the family. Their parents must have been avid collectors over the years so the house was packed with vintage treasures and the prices were good {insert squeals of joy here}.

I found this chalkware dog tucked away on a back shelf.

These Disney books are copyrighted 1939

A hotel key holder from Le Bastille in Paris. There were also a couple of old squished pennies and other nice smalls.

Several vintage kitchen utensils. The egg beater has wooden handles. I really like the red tin box.

A few old sewing notions including two wooden spools with brands that I've never seen before.

An old toy cap gun that still works, plus a holster and metal spurs with leather straps. I wish I had the spurs when I was a kid.

A wooden clothes brush made in Germany with advertising carved in the handle.

Old tools, old skeleton keys and glass door knobs. So many possibilities!

I found this MG wall thermometer hanging in the work shed.

I found three more oil cans to go with my first can. The tall one in the middle is made of copper. NOTE: All of these photos were shot on a vintage wooden card table that my Dear Handyman found for me.

I couldn't find a copyright date on this Space Patrol book but it looks old. The pages have illustrations to make a futuristic city with spaceships.

An old cardboard map puzzle which might be from 1954 but I need to do more research.

Lots of old postcards and vintage TV show stickers.

And last but not least, some old toys including a Tonka truck and a wooden top.

I will try to keep listing items in my Stuff to Treasure store. If there is something you are interested in purchasing then please email me and I will list it in my store as soon as I can. Or Like my store's Facebook page to find out when new items are listed. My intentions to post items for sale are good but there isn't always enough hours in my day.

I hope everyone had a serendipitous day of thrifting.

  5. Wow Lynda. It looks like you really hit the jackpot. I am always loking to score small things that can be used in my projects when scouring flea markets, antique shops and estate sales, just like you did!
