A Stress-free Thrifting Day

There were so many amazing estate sales that started mid-week so I thought everything good would be sold by this weekend. I did not have high expectations to find anything spectacular so it was a stress-free thrifting day.

Imagine my joy when I found that some of the treasures I wanted were now half-price and still available. My favorite find was this silverplated vase. I also found another vintage spice jar.

These silverplate forks and spoons were too nice and too cheap to pass up.
I couldn't resist this display shelf. Can you guess what it was originally? It is an old wooden cash drawer turned on its side which makes it a perfect display shelf. You can see the curved coin sections on the right.
I love old wooden crates. My first apartment was "decorated" with old crates as shelves. We found this Seven-up crate that is in great condition.
We had gone to one sale that had advertised a large jar of buttons that I wanted. Since we were there on the second day I was disappointed to find that it was already sold. But at the next sale we stopped at they had these two large bags of buttons at half-price. I probably got more buttons for less money.
I also found this 60 piece set of Metrosene thread. I bought these more for the quality of the thread than for the spools.
The last things I found were bits of ephemera that are always interesting. One is an old photo album that has some old WWII era photos from Australia.
I love old postcards. There are two fold-out portfolios of Salt Lake City and San Diego. I also picked up old California postcards of places I have visited in the past and some random beautiful and funny unused postcards.
This last item brought back some old memories for me. These are seed packets that were given away at the old Richfield gas stations. I don't know if this was just a local California promotional give-away. These are still sealed with seeds inside.
So we had a lot of fun even though the sales were second and third day sales. I got some great bargains which is always more enjoyable. I will try and get more items listed in my Stuff to Treasure store. If you're interested in purchasing any of the great thrifted treasures I find then please join my Facebook page {see link on the right} to see when I list something new in my store. I hope everyone had a great day of thrifting.

  1. Looks like the second and third day sales were good to you. The silver urn is wonderful! I think you made out with those button bags; they're stuffed full. Gotta love buttons! And what a great idea to turn the cash drawer on its side for display. I'll try to remember that if I see something cool like that.

  2. The silver-plated vase is a champagne bucket. What a fun day you had.

    1. Oh, you are right! I picture it filled with hydrangeas so I think of it as a vase but it is much better suited as a champagne bucket. Thanks for the comment.

  3. I had an old Pepsi crate that also had the lid. A checkerboard was painted on the top. I gave that to my son. I also have an old pickle jar that I filled with collected buttons and some thread that was on tall round pieces of wood. I'm sure there's a name for those. Anyway, my grandson's class had to collect buttons to bring to school or Sunday school. I sent him with a large coffee can full!
Your carefree day turned into awesomeness! Yay!
