We tend to be a bit spontaneous so what we "plan" and what we actually end up doing can be two different stories. Luckily this story had a happy ending and not only did I find more treasures but I was also pleasantly surprised to see a friendly face.<br />

<div>
<a href="http://www.wherewomencreate.com/" target="_blank">Jo Packham</a> was signing copies of her magazine at the show. I worked with Jo designing the packaging for her first line of Sizzix craft dies. More recently, I shared a Sizzix demonstration booth next to hers at the Craft and Hobby Association trade show. So it was a wonderful surprise to see her listed as the special guest signing autographs at the show.<br />

The show was such an inspiration and filled with so much amazing junk. Last month I bought two vintage bowling pins and now I found an even older Strike Master bowling pin. It looks like I've started collecting bowling pins.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I also bought metal charms and escutcheons that I plan to use on various projects. I don't know how old these are but they look so vintage. I especially like the little heart locket in the middle of the bottom photo.<br />

Of course this made me curious so I just had to check this out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlIsu9rWipdQRA9ji1deEwJjnRvUGP297j_BL4ic7RVXQxBeYhs-HXOw50fuWRV57ZtlwagXowACyDu9tJD2wZ_zY436hX1APCH6VWyfb9IH4ojdch28wwKz8ZjDe-6-_f4jxMnM6vAO8/s1600/Office_supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlIsu9rWipdQRA9ji1deEwJjnRvUGP297j_BL4ic7RVXQxBeYhs-HXOw50fuWRV57ZtlwagXowACyDu9tJD2wZ_zY436hX1APCH6VWyfb9IH4ojdch28wwKz8ZjDe-6-_f4jxMnM6vAO8/s1600/Office_supplies.jpg" /></a></div>
The <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2011/04/finding-childhood-memories-at-estate.html" target="_blank">post </a>they featured was about how I had found items at an estate sale that brought back memories of my childhood. My father had a similar airplane wing lamp in brown. The Bakelite adding machine makes the most amazing clicking, cranking, snapping sounds that reminds me of Sunday mornings when my father would do his bookkeeping.<br />
<br />
If you get a chance, check out <a href="http://blog.megaestatesales.com/101-reasons-to-love-estate-sales/" target="_blank">MegaEstateSales</a> and read their 101 Reasons to Love Estate Sales. The reasons are all so interesting.<br />
<br />
Personally, I don't need all 101 reasons to love estate sales. I would go to them just for the fun of it.<br />

There is still the thrill of the hunt and the feeling of joy when you find that perfect something from your Thrift Wish List.<br />
<br />
Last week, Dear Handyman and I went to <a href="http://www.matildasmouse.com/">Matilda's Mouse</a> near San Diego. There was so much inspiration everywhere but I was especially thrilled to find two vintage bowling pins that have been on my Thrift Wish List for a long time. They came home with me and share a place of honor with my world globe collection.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This weekend we had such lovely weather so we decided to take a drive up to Ventura to explore their many thrift stores. I found a couple of items to use for future projects and lots of inspiration. The best part was the beautiful drive along the California coast and I had never seen the San Buenaventura Mission before.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The images of the Pacific Ocean were taken near Malibu. If you look carefully in the bottom photo, on the left along the horizon line, you can see the faint outline of the Channel Islands off of the California coast.</div>

I am hoping to continue to share my thifting adventures on this blog. If you want to share in some DIY/crafting adventures then please come Follow me at <a href="http://lyndacreates.com/">LyndaCreates.com</a>.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-84838093381579280332015-12-09T22:24:00.000-08:002015-12-09T22:24:11.760-08:00Moving to a New SiteIf you've been following my blog recently, I mentioned that I am now a product designer for Sizzix, the paper crafting company. It is really the perfect job for me because I'm a designer AND a paper crafter which makes me my own target audience.<br />
<br />
We are now getting very close to the big Craft and Hobby Association trade show in Anaheim, California next month so I've been extremely busy doing both the catalog and packaging for Tim Holtz plus my own product designs. Our social media person mentioned that it would be good if I had a blog. Oh, wait! I have one!!! But I wanted one that was more about my crafting, where I could offer sneak peeks at my new designs and share different ideas on how to use my designs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lyndacreates.com/"><img border="0" height="128" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikuTwqRbFcL4aii1ap3P03xIKQ6fX1mQCwEJXBbZyBdpHmXa51_8OGXCOx7y_xzG2K48PbRlMYh8X_xCZuCtJ0qfltVG0GxfzmkYSQLnbEBoJyW2IL6U7yDaSNVK5RdIv9EX3ATZJYQ1o/s640/Lynda_Kanase_Flower_Header2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
So off I went and built a new website dedicated to {mostly} crafting but I am, and always will be, a thrifter so you may find upcycled thrifted pieces in some projects.<br />
<br />
Since my product hasn't officially launched yet, I cannot share the designs on my new site at this time. So I have been reposting some projects from this original site but adding more instructions or updating the project itself when possible.<br />
<br />

I spent time creating a fun banner and then totally forgot to post. Or maybe it just got lost in my head somewhere. I didn't want it to be lost forever so here it is.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwTswoizuaAoez5PG1COBBqG9W5PLHMKy568NJm8KnFoPf3oJYdDeEHkdWn7VKvy_7i8xq4lgFBV-g6QSHNyCJtT1JTcpxmkafC2jp1WLFnOtpmTCPdMM1bDf3Dd5PtPu17cIZCaHkINA/s1600/Halloween_banner2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwTswoizuaAoez5PG1COBBqG9W5PLHMKy568NJm8KnFoPf3oJYdDeEHkdWn7VKvy_7i8xq4lgFBV-g6QSHNyCJtT1JTcpxmkafC2jp1WLFnOtpmTCPdMM1bDf3Dd5PtPu17cIZCaHkINA/s1600/Halloween_banner2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div>
I created this using Tim Holtz's three mask dies and the <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/660836/sizzix-framelits-plus-die-set-16pk-banners-2">Banner #2</a> die set by Sizzix. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I made three each of the <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/660960/sizzix-thinlits-die-set-8pk-vampire">Vampire</a>, <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/660959/sizzix-thinlits-die-set-6pk-monster">Monster</a> and <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/660961/sizzix-thinlits-die-set-9pk-zombie">Zombie</a> using different color combinations. This was an easy project once I had an "assembly line" of masks going. The hardest part was selecting the colors.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Here are some closer views.</div>

Up to this point my favorite experience was in San Diego many years ago with a great group of scrapping friends. But this recent event in Ontario, California has to be THE BEST because I was finally introduced as a "<a href="http://www.sizzix.com/catalog#facets=designer~lynda-kanase&ideas=&page=1">Designer for Sizzix</a>".<br />
<br />
Okay, so maybe no one actually caught the intro but I heard it and it was thrilling. I was there to observe <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/catalog#facets=designer~jen-long">Jen Long</a> demonstrate her Sizzix product at the <a href="http://www.itscheaperthantherapy.com/">It's Cheaper Than Therapy</a> booth. This was my introduction to the fine art of demonstrating our product to the public. It was exciting because I love the product and I love the people who love the product. I AM one of those people who uses and loves our product and my enthusiasm is authentic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6qzhHCzFHvoGq2X7iznPqRBxOINlAjoDuxuRg_vX6l-MIdOndHc_s6kcgwWB3JBfBVEfA8bcrDGi5eyuYrlS8S-LfoQmBk13Wx1_QtiBjo98gVKCyxcA-doMlg1JdJWh1CoeLW1nte6g/s1600/Scrapbook_expo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="291" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6qzhHCzFHvoGq2X7iznPqRBxOINlAjoDuxuRg_vX6l-MIdOndHc_s6kcgwWB3JBfBVEfA8bcrDGi5eyuYrlS8S-LfoQmBk13Wx1_QtiBjo98gVKCyxcA-doMlg1JdJWh1CoeLW1nte6g/s320/Scrapbook_expo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
You can see my enthusiasm while waiting to get into the Expo.<br />
<br />
I had to take a selfie from the show. I was too excited and forgot to ask someone to take a picture of me helping with the demo.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0sDqSNhWPbNPmfrsYXccXhgGVYooa3pKqsor9EGChYXvvRXnXA-XnUZSWGYlZQw3UBoXpjXATKGNumrqiY2bvmJeZVcecq3jE9yOBXrg0jtOiichOZGgT69fVbQo33i5GzELwZnrlzVY/s1600/Lynda_Kanase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0sDqSNhWPbNPmfrsYXccXhgGVYooa3pKqsor9EGChYXvvRXnXA-XnUZSWGYlZQw3UBoXpjXATKGNumrqiY2bvmJeZVcecq3jE9yOBXrg0jtOiichOZGgT69fVbQo33i5GzELwZnrlzVY/s320/Lynda_Kanase.jpg" width="231" /></a></div>
The It's Cheaper Than Therapy booth had a wall of Sizzix product. I created much of the packaging prior to becoming a product designer so I was excited to see that.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Sp_cZIujmygyWoEdc6VSKilbSy1ctipiBcREMcyB00tNcTURzioeLVd2O__sG1U8TNfCVo8H7QBtuHq_KSSEBD_cwHylrYJtqnyNTrMBsb07Cdda_pNiUnIsoP89BUFjdH5qD8aleG0/s1600/Cheaper_Than_Therapy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Sp_cZIujmygyWoEdc6VSKilbSy1ctipiBcREMcyB00tNcTURzioeLVd2O__sG1U8TNfCVo8H7QBtuHq_KSSEBD_cwHylrYJtqnyNTrMBsb07Cdda_pNiUnIsoP89BUFjdH5qD8aleG0/s320/Cheaper_Than_Therapy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Stephanie Barnard from <a href="http://www.thestampsoflife.com/index.htm">The Stamps of Life</a> had a booth at the show. She is such an inspiration to me. Her enthusiasm is contagious.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_hOvYFNYPSKzMmUEWOTeAD0Z_R3NJaJh9JjuJwodB2vUP7eAlWyKkdkbAAo224G9J1pqga8M_s0x7BhqMfjwjnDQul1E1MElFie5hbarHgia9U_Ypwimptupk7U5rMsDd0dl-Z2WdDWg/s1600/Stamps_Of_Life.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_hOvYFNYPSKzMmUEWOTeAD0Z_R3NJaJh9JjuJwodB2vUP7eAlWyKkdkbAAo224G9J1pqga8M_s0x7BhqMfjwjnDQul1E1MElFie5hbarHgia9U_Ypwimptupk7U5rMsDd0dl-Z2WdDWg/s320/Stamps_Of_Life.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
And because I am an avid crafter, I could not resist shopping. I know I said that I wouldn't buy more paper but I've been scrapbooking quite a bit so I allowed myself a bit of a splurge at a discounted price. Here is my Haul.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZO14JEZ1G5V5ieV7BBtdzZrj9gHyKOFI_bKB3ycwPU7NYgfdX6aG44k8Hb9KqLwBDnti5KhC8_nMdO3wyZF7PGSuRRWVELSLcR1jeAlA-UveJaekXIm0rU9aSXpHLh38406n5epG2sE4/s1600/Scrapbook_Haul.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZO14JEZ1G5V5ieV7BBtdzZrj9gHyKOFI_bKB3ycwPU7NYgfdX6aG44k8Hb9KqLwBDnti5KhC8_nMdO3wyZF7PGSuRRWVELSLcR1jeAlA-UveJaekXIm0rU9aSXpHLh38406n5epG2sE4/s320/Scrapbook_Haul.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
It was an amazing day. I can't wait until I can share some of my own product designs with everyone. All I can say is that I am busy designing everyday and it is so much fun!<br />
<br />
Hope everyone had a great weekend!Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-82488137715467696122015-08-02T21:56:00.001-07:002015-08-02T21:56:38.194-07:00Craft Room Studio RevealIt is finally time to reveal my studio space. The room is small but it is the perfect size for me since I have a little bit of a lot of Stuff. The room is just off of my kitchen with French doors that lead out to the garden. My computer is off to the left. On the opposite wall are my 49 Junk Drawers which you can see a little part of <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2015/01/living-with-less-in-2015.html">here</a> and <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2013/06/designers-craft-connection-blog-hop-june.html">here</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaFwiFYtymQVospyifRhHd6QCv8VmQCiCdos2MEWB5uf6ZGTp0MnsmOB0ErTeP8Aafz4bwUXu-MMZpZuR0CtUBlqvh4P1E7IPW4w4p3gsKB8D6Nq2OOYbGQQpewDa4uIZQvIAcOeQoFno/s1600/craft_Space1.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaFwiFYtymQVospyifRhHd6QCv8VmQCiCdos2MEWB5uf6ZGTp0MnsmOB0ErTeP8Aafz4bwUXu-MMZpZuR0CtUBlqvh4P1E7IPW4w4p3gsKB8D6Nq2OOYbGQQpewDa4uIZQvIAcOeQoFno/s640/craft_Space1.gif" width="425" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The image above is the right side of the room. The chair is a $5 thrifted treasure. The tilt bins along the walls were from a scrapbooking store that was closing many years ago. These hold ribbons and dimensional embellishments. There are 170 tilt bins.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBCv-HKmWd6lqGxK7lTM7a5ERh8Cc2Rf-cPzvguIu3eMH65Bd7PdN-2d4PlXbIKMBczWop5WN-cuB44mRlkQEqJ3f0bXnBtBPo-BVmWqy0JssOwUlfeBVRDVsdsMYSQN_EyDywGjUFI_k/s1600/craft_Space2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBCv-HKmWd6lqGxK7lTM7a5ERh8Cc2Rf-cPzvguIu3eMH65Bd7PdN-2d4PlXbIKMBczWop5WN-cuB44mRlkQEqJ3f0bXnBtBPo-BVmWqy0JssOwUlfeBVRDVsdsMYSQN_EyDywGjUFI_k/s1600/craft_Space2.gif" /></a></div>
This photo shows how small my space really is. Luckily, almost* everything fit. On the left of the desk is a vintage biscuit tin that hold my Grunge Paper and Grunge Board, larger stencils and thicker chipboard pieces. On the walls above my desk are my <a href="http://www.containerstore.com/elfa/index.htm">Elfa shelves</a> from the Container Store. I installed these myself before I met Dear Handyman. They haven't fallen down yet! I realize that I have three types of projects that I usually work on; Scrapbooking, Upcycling and Altered Art. The bins on these shelves are labeled with these categories. I usually work with the French doors open so the bins keep out the dust.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBzknNrVZy3-niLCsnK9qAvxHHHV4hl4reJjAnE388tjchtzYUyyzMV9HNu2zPrHVhwzofWx7nmrLqeo9EpeF_RQPPuwXK73AIGjZRN1rmA-t3lCKRjvP1_rrDAj7rIHp_blSza5i_ifM/s1600/cart.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBzknNrVZy3-niLCsnK9qAvxHHHV4hl4reJjAnE388tjchtzYUyyzMV9HNu2zPrHVhwzofWx7nmrLqeo9EpeF_RQPPuwXK73AIGjZRN1rmA-t3lCKRjvP1_rrDAj7rIHp_blSza5i_ifM/s640/cart.gif" width="441" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The thing that finally made everything come together was when I moved my <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2012/11/another-happy-find-from-my-thrifting.html">vintage cart</a> into the room as a mobile work surface. On top is my paper cutter. My thin dies are organized on the middle shelf. My <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/659500/sizzix-fabi-starter-kit-gray-turquoise">Sizzix, Fabi </a>die cutter and autographed <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/656850/sizzix-vagabond-machine-only-inspired-by-tim-holtz">Vagabond</a> are on the bottom shelf. FYI: I love the colors of the Fabi machine... aqua and soft grey, sweet! And it works exactly like a <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660425/sizzix-big-shot-machine-only-white-gray">Big Shot</a> or <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/657850/sizzix-bigkick-machine-only-periwinkle">BIGkick</a> machine but prettier.</div>
<a name='more'></a>To organize my thin dies I bought <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Avery-Elle-Storage-Pockets-25-Pack/dp/B00H266BEE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1438561068&sr=8-1&keywords=elle+avery">Avery/Elle</a> pocket folders. I cut magnetic sheets into 5"x7" pieces {I used an Xacto knife on the magnetic sheet so as not to damage my paper cutter} and organized my dies according to similar shapes. I don't have to keep track of the names of the sets so I just put similar shapes together but you could organize these any way you want. I then used some thrifted <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2013/03/springs-first-thrift.html">old drawers</a> to hold them. I also have some stamps and dies in these pockets as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwxnb7QRE42V04YAEc0d9HJrPJ40s5G_dyfiP1X5NL1H2SORPMUc1w5u5vxprf4SeHSkVX9pmvihbY3AcS3shFRvlj4Rpi4PzLfvC6Bd9aFlF0VsbAOj5iV-3-hhQwA7j_pojiY0Hls7E/s1600/drawer.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwxnb7QRE42V04YAEc0d9HJrPJ40s5G_dyfiP1X5NL1H2SORPMUc1w5u5vxprf4SeHSkVX9pmvihbY3AcS3shFRvlj4Rpi4PzLfvC6Bd9aFlF0VsbAOj5iV-3-hhQwA7j_pojiY0Hls7E/s320/drawer.gif" width="245" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My paper Stash fit into four groups. The top right drawer is closest to my working surface so I have my solid colored card stock which I use most often. The other top drawer is organized by my three favorite manufacturers: Basic Grey, October Afternoon and Cosmo Cricket. I have some old Stash that I love in there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2fo8GI3pvTjyTczftFztOXa1KSUTdZnk52zwwbHVVjhsKS3GG3NnyK8vVtT90QsNzuxXUHb1fA4fW645rmJdQScKUfKeKLaxtjWCEFfneMZnfNLjbDOcLA0Uq14vLXkqmr8sfKrJMHs0/s1600/file1.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2fo8GI3pvTjyTczftFztOXa1KSUTdZnk52zwwbHVVjhsKS3GG3NnyK8vVtT90QsNzuxXUHb1fA4fW645rmJdQScKUfKeKLaxtjWCEFfneMZnfNLjbDOcLA0Uq14vLXkqmr8sfKrJMHs0/s320/file1.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
The bottom right drawer is organized by patterned colored paper and then themes. The bottom left is a continuation of themes: Holidays, Outdoors, etc. The best part is that they won't get dusty.<br />

<span id="goog_1349028759"></span><span id="goog_1349028760"></span>I also have <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50264927/#/40196241">Alex drawers</a> from Ikea. These hold larger groups of things such as adhesives and ink pads. The nice things is that it can be rolled out to use as an extra work surface.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLJl9AICGtrMqxVET3iI_fh4uGubuAffpSRetgpZ2niosabyXqk7SyvQcsXLtDRH3SbfS-I3W_yVGUKkoR_aH2Rpy922Ea8y-ZfiAsRunDZdGDy6o6PmEBHRLXaN3_7lXw-j4dTnxkZrc/s1600/washi.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLJl9AICGtrMqxVET3iI_fh4uGubuAffpSRetgpZ2niosabyXqk7SyvQcsXLtDRH3SbfS-I3W_yVGUKkoR_aH2Rpy922Ea8y-ZfiAsRunDZdGDy6o6PmEBHRLXaN3_7lXw-j4dTnxkZrc/s320/washi.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
On the right side of the desk is a lower cupboard that holds Project folders. I grouped papers together that I plan to use on a large single project such as my Heritage album. The drawers above are empty for now. I think that I may need to buy a different configuration of drawer to hold my alphabet stickers.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL0sIwL6A8Na4N1g1slW5V-9c_vuemRur-mrZme7s1SrXUQbEeyXlGHHGa3o4EO87YIuKi3QjrtALQxEcR8K5j3L2rdr8om3ZyGqVbTTNiTytwRy_Yd57yfimFBXBczRBhZikfAUAQnCs/s1600/projects.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL0sIwL6A8Na4N1g1slW5V-9c_vuemRur-mrZme7s1SrXUQbEeyXlGHHGa3o4EO87YIuKi3QjrtALQxEcR8K5j3L2rdr8om3ZyGqVbTTNiTytwRy_Yd57yfimFBXBczRBhZikfAUAQnCs/s320/projects.gif" width="255" /></a></div>
I did only two major changes to my studio for this reorganization project. The first was the addition of the Go-Organize drawers. The second was adding pull-out drawers to the tall Ikea cabinet that used to hold household items.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX969EBVQUQdRhv5OTjTG7l8Q9ThsT_EVCeprTJzw0s9VafsmKCyXX9zUOuJast8iTN6nvF7_jtgX9RjlGeaKRZhCILXroPvsJjtWCD8qfdTaAxBykeZrfec6fQErtw_sxQepZC-WVe5M/s1600/Texture_Fades1.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX969EBVQUQdRhv5OTjTG7l8Q9ThsT_EVCeprTJzw0s9VafsmKCyXX9zUOuJast8iTN6nvF7_jtgX9RjlGeaKRZhCILXroPvsJjtWCD8qfdTaAxBykeZrfec6fQErtw_sxQepZC-WVe5M/s320/Texture_Fades1.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
One pull-out drawer holds embossing folders, Decorative Strips dies and On The Edge dies. The wooden box on the top is a thrifted thread spool display but it worked perfectly to hold smaller embossing border folders.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXlMPBLsVFSZT6_8PLFI0sKl8zow9R_drI14jlSFPhV_TzALeKzq32FvGQipz8aFGiPq41rYwywT8fLCUbtprfKmM1xUI59u34zg3wSvXWo5tU4F8JGBD361lOxPbkcr81fwepSg5fvLs/s1600/Embossing_folder_files.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXlMPBLsVFSZT6_8PLFI0sKl8zow9R_drI14jlSFPhV_TzALeKzq32FvGQipz8aFGiPq41rYwywT8fLCUbtprfKmM1xUI59u34zg3wSvXWo5tU4F8JGBD361lOxPbkcr81fwepSg5fvLs/s400/Embossing_folder_files.gif" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
My A2 and A6 sized embossing folders fit perfectly inside this thrifted wooden box with Bakelite handles. To keep things organized I made the plastic divider tabs.<br />
<br />
To create the tabs, I bought five plastic folders from Walmart.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL7tixuSdr89fl_9AmzpODEbr_9IKXaboQko4nOqj5r7x7sN3AiivOc39BalfCPw0VB9uRO02mCSsVb0uA93xA3dmh3-FqZAZn1m2vX1yJ6BKJbzZqqT1sf9NDxcwmB3NnYrU2JDxvADE/s1600/IMG_6210.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL7tixuSdr89fl_9AmzpODEbr_9IKXaboQko4nOqj5r7x7sN3AiivOc39BalfCPw0VB9uRO02mCSsVb0uA93xA3dmh3-FqZAZn1m2vX1yJ6BKJbzZqqT1sf9NDxcwmB3NnYrU2JDxvADE/s320/IMG_6210.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut them {again I used an Xacto instead of a paper cutter} to 6 inches wide {the width of the die} and as tall as I needed plus 3/4 inch on the longer side for the tab. Next I used my On the Edge, <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/656629/sizzix-on-the-edge-die-file-tabs">File Tab</a> die by Sizzix to cut tabs on the long edge. I realized that I couldn't always line up the plastic with the top of the tab blade so I added a piece of Washi tape on the die to help me visually align things better. I also taped the plastic to the die before running it through the machine so it stayed in place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Z6evqCu_Sswd2gIpWzl9dGcBpU84UNor9ZvVP-K5jafQgL2oBepfvLCQk1-xK1aR4AXdQP79YI_uoA5YpPd7e3NPWBeXWgxIEri2R0EkMNkj5swWEm1rQh2jOFBi2jRgjJZ_wzSTqF8/s1600/IMG_6214.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="261" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3Z6evqCu_Sswd2gIpWzl9dGcBpU84UNor9ZvVP-K5jafQgL2oBepfvLCQk1-xK1aR4AXdQP79YI_uoA5YpPd7e3NPWBeXWgxIEri2R0EkMNkj5swWEm1rQh2jOFBi2jRgjJZ_wzSTqF8/s320/IMG_6214.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOsi2eofjdD-23bJw4snhKPRCiEhfmUedUuAB3HkklFWoww1Pxa6eiN0DYjcf8r1rQyDk4RGWVleUNkS8HnHbDSYcAsPfIii4Tk-V5G7JGIAfWPMOPz1amancU-cHKiSlwvqFocCmherw/s1600/IMG_6213.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOsi2eofjdD-23bJw4snhKPRCiEhfmUedUuAB3HkklFWoww1Pxa6eiN0DYjcf8r1rQyDk4RGWVleUNkS8HnHbDSYcAsPfIii4Tk-V5G7JGIAfWPMOPz1amancU-cHKiSlwvqFocCmherw/s320/IMG_6213.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
As a final step, I rounded the corners to give it a finished look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAf-PIazhFazRz5NjIVe2v80cN4chaE2vPA5VLaURLiwXX9Br0uX7m5VESKUmxHc4-V8YFVU-cVUPg59RVXcjXnVw6toj_TYhgatK75bXa_OTUB5SbcnWe_0KRdMFcqlR_XpfVgj7TCZ8/s1600/IMG_6215.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAf-PIazhFazRz5NjIVe2v80cN4chaE2vPA5VLaURLiwXX9Br0uX7m5VESKUmxHc4-V8YFVU-cVUPg59RVXcjXnVw6toj_TYhgatK75bXa_OTUB5SbcnWe_0KRdMFcqlR_XpfVgj7TCZ8/s320/IMG_6215.gif" width="237" /></a></div>
Those were for my embossing folders. I had lots of smaller plastic pieces left over so I cut them to fit my pocket cards and organized these as well. The green tabs are for pocket cards in the following categories: Bubbles {thought bubbles}, Grids, Images, Journaling cards {empty}, Journaling Cards {with words}, Lists, Love, Month/Day/Year, Seasons, Symbols and Words. The blue tabs separate colors. When I purged my paper Stash, I cut some into 3x4 sizes and filed them under the colors. I got the idea for the categories from an online video and apologize for not remembering the name of the originator.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ZAxXyrs6SsUVwadTVvMvXeYqhvbXF7pNbFCDCc-BNpgIQuSfwuSq3CdcP3WXX1jtFOhdYodfFpmXCai074bJOZyzLVMh93j2bBoAMraEVkgmtN8wla4dGvyKHHJX3XSgQXYKN1vUPL0/s1600/Pocket_card_organizing.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ZAxXyrs6SsUVwadTVvMvXeYqhvbXF7pNbFCDCc-BNpgIQuSfwuSq3CdcP3WXX1jtFOhdYodfFpmXCai074bJOZyzLVMh93j2bBoAMraEVkgmtN8wla4dGvyKHHJX3XSgQXYKN1vUPL0/s1600/Pocket_card_organizing.gif" /></a></div>
Here is the drawer full of flat embellishments. The white and green tray is <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70306931/">Kusiner</a> from Ikea with lots of dividers to hold pocket cards and many other embellishments. It is designed to fit the Ikea drawer perfectly.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2_ly-dcWwU7_DL8H5iAQYocGNv4UYTqrX14rMHZX-ql_F1Ue6FC1le2xsn5BojSE96JWFdNjIhWDAJmNzv38WyXtydRb90n3bvzrIVBGomOeMr1aDz88bdqNZpwXNfESWCNzeKYNiCM0/s1600/dies1.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2_ly-dcWwU7_DL8H5iAQYocGNv4UYTqrX14rMHZX-ql_F1Ue6FC1le2xsn5BojSE96JWFdNjIhWDAJmNzv38WyXtydRb90n3bvzrIVBGomOeMr1aDz88bdqNZpwXNfESWCNzeKYNiCM0/s320/dies1.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
The bottom drawer holds my Alterations dies. My other Sizzix dies are in the corner cabinet above my desk. I also keep all of my cutting pads and platforms here. Below this, at the bottom of the cabinet, is where I store my sewing machine and a Cropper Hopper box full of alphabet stickers for now.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioOo4ZZIQPFmnz9PcPDYA-uCVDfNoSk-4GCiQwfGmjcRl44Pcq835g6dPUu7tHYE-IJkSSvb2tWXfh8_TooC7VzhzIu7CeJLk6C6ZQ2HICLR1ffTXZi3d0RPcIU_oXMO5ivV0J4a2F3CM/s1600/projects2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioOo4ZZIQPFmnz9PcPDYA-uCVDfNoSk-4GCiQwfGmjcRl44Pcq835g6dPUu7tHYE-IJkSSvb2tWXfh8_TooC7VzhzIu7CeJLk6C6ZQ2HICLR1ffTXZi3d0RPcIU_oXMO5ivV0J4a2F3CM/s320/projects2.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
*And finally, a full disclosure seems appropriate here. I said that "almost" everything was put away. I still need to find space for my eClips {the Silhouette is being retired}. Plus, under my desk is a large Cropper Hopper box and a white file folder box.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
When I started organizing my studio, I found loose scrapbooking pages that were created at random, lots of memorabilia and photos from all different dates. I prefer to scrap chronologically so I needed to organize these random bits. The easiest way was for me to set up folders by years and place all of the random bits into the appropriate folders. Unfortunately I discovered that I am almost ten years behind. But now that I have everything in yearly folders, I can pull out one folder when I am ready to scrap a particular year. The white file folder box was originally set up the same way but by months back when I was catching up by months rather than years. I think all of 2005 is in that file box.<br />
<br />
I still need to organize other parts of my room but at least I can find most of my supplies quickly and easily. The best part was that I purged so much in the process. It makes me feel so happy to work in this room now.<br />
<br />
Thank you so much for reading through to the end of this long post. Happy crafting!Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-24069917368696490202015-05-31T22:38:00.001-07:002015-05-31T22:38:43.517-07:00Big News Plus My Studio RemodelI have been missing from my blog for a while now. I apologize but some wonderful, big things are happening in my career and life.<br />
<br />
Besides continuing as the Senior Graphic Designer and Brand Packaging Specialist at Sizzix / Ellison, I have been promoted to Senior Product Designer as well. What this means is that I will now design my own line of dies and stamps. I am so excited! I have crafted my entire life so this makes me feel so complete.<br />
<br />
But what this also means is that I am busier than ever at work. I am still creating all of Tim Holtz's packaging plus his catalog for the upcoming Summer trade show. I am so thankful that the company and Tim wanted me to continue working on his lines.<br />
<br />
Designing my own product also means that I want to stay very close to the crafting industry trends and eventually share my vision of how my designs can be used. This gave me the incentive to reorganize my tiny studio at home. To begin, I have been spending a lot of time pouring over images of craft studios.<br />
<br />
Here is a sneak peek of the first stage of my studio remodel:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPBPNSE3qBkGtfU0MQAqgb5sazeAaDoB-PaSbjeTzl3F19wBVjmqOSDGrxt252TGAa22pQ4YbyOgQmZqeyIpMcic_OS1LVZk-sSXthpJDojCIIlkEBKtr05h2-p46-pWLkkiNpsjxg5KE/s1600/Day1_pristine.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPBPNSE3qBkGtfU0MQAqgb5sazeAaDoB-PaSbjeTzl3F19wBVjmqOSDGrxt252TGAa22pQ4YbyOgQmZqeyIpMcic_OS1LVZk-sSXthpJDojCIIlkEBKtr05h2-p46-pWLkkiNpsjxg5KE/s400/Day1_pristine.gif" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
On one hand I love the look of using vintage, repurposed storage for all of my supplies. I would love a studio like Cathe Holden of <a href="http://justsomethingimade.com/2014/03/cathe-holden-inspired-barn-workshop-studio-tour/">Just Something I Made</a>. The studio images make me want to gather all of my vintage goodies and decorate. But her studio is 1,000 square feet and my space is a tiny 150 square feet. I have a lot of stuff but I think that much visual candy would be overwhelming in my small space. Plus I have a big, black dog that attracts dust and I didn't want to worry about dusting all of the time.<br />
<br />
And then there is Jennifer McGuire's beautiful, efficient, professionally-planned studio. I wanted that style as well. Two completely opposite but highly-organized styles of creative spaces that made me swoon with envy.<br />
<br />
So, in my typical Gemini manner, I am doing a mash-up of the two styles. I bought storage drawers from <a href="http://Go-Organize.com/">Go-Organize.com</a> to keep things relatively dust-free and organized. But to keep everything from becoming too uniform, I am going to add my vintage storage solutions as the next step. I'm not there yet so you'll have to wait for the big reveal later.<br />
<br />
In the image above you can see the clean hanging paper drawers stacked on one side of my studio.<br />
I already had the Tilt Bins on the walls above my desk. The new white drawers are already filled with my papers. That's it! I am not going to buy any more paper until I use up some in the drawers. I'm still trying to live with less so I'm purging as I organize.<br />
<br />
This was a fun but exhausting weekend. I can't wait to get back to work!Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-21632052287476085182015-05-10T20:53:00.000-07:002015-05-10T20:53:52.064-07:00Happy Mother's DayWhat an awesome Mother's Day!!! I am so thankful for all of the blessings in my life.<br />
<br />
My day started off with a card from my son along with two Mr. Goodbars {my favorite candy}.<br />
<br />
Dear Handyman threw together a breakfast of sausages, bell peppers, hash browns, English baked beans and scrambled eggs. Perfection without the restaurant crowds.<br />
<br />
We worked a little on our new {to us} RV. We named this RV, Lucy after Lucille Ball in the movie, The Long, Long Trailer. I will add photos of Lucy another time.<br />
<br />
Mid-day we went to a Japanese bakery that had the best cream puff pastry with fresh strawberries.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiFW1CrRjGOK3llPs0wcjTyI-I_-E_TwlvUZoWlbR3sipijBasPMhtaL4gmHvOixrJq7g-nojlYzRIwaS6SD40G_fbfT1irfhNHiwRb0YDXbj7ttLrLs3hfdxHb0iY3zR-x3F77_raNWw/s1600/Cream_Pan.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiFW1CrRjGOK3llPs0wcjTyI-I_-E_TwlvUZoWlbR3sipijBasPMhtaL4gmHvOixrJq7g-nojlYzRIwaS6SD40G_fbfT1irfhNHiwRb0YDXbj7ttLrLs3hfdxHb0iY3zR-x3F77_raNWw/s320/Cream_Pan.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
The bakery is called Cream Pan in Tustin, CA. In the time it took me to take this photo, Dear Handyman ate two of the pastries. They aren't very big but they are delicious!<br />
<br />
I wanted to go to the scrapbooking store but they were closed today. I will treat myself next weekend.<br />
<br />
Then we went to Fashion Island in Newport Beach, CA. The weather was warm and it was a beautiful day to walk around the stores.<br />
<br />
It is always fun to people-watch especially at Fashion Island. I love the koi pond and watching the little children fascinated with the koi fish.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXqhC3sLExlwGmc5-_zwPVW33Th0VR0vqRYa1f-p4XEJBmKNtqNIbQ-NwleMeOIIf7S71vVOpKBkjh5NxHie0dQm7SE6sXlKU8HE52WvbOslm-P4Kv_SSgfFkw50JVL8lVft_JE5mIAs4/s1600/Fashion_Island.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXqhC3sLExlwGmc5-_zwPVW33Th0VR0vqRYa1f-p4XEJBmKNtqNIbQ-NwleMeOIIf7S71vVOpKBkjh5NxHie0dQm7SE6sXlKU8HE52WvbOslm-P4Kv_SSgfFkw50JVL8lVft_JE5mIAs4/s320/Fashion_Island.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
This shopping center is so high-end that I can't afford to buy anything except in the book store. I treated myself to the current issue of Where Women Create, Business. There is an wonderful article about my friend, <a href="http://www.eileenhull.com/">Eileen Hull</a> and her Paper Trails adventure. I also bought a book about modern calligraphy. I want to improve my calligraphy skills.<br />
<br />
Finally, dinner was cooked by Dear Handyman. It was a feast of shrimp cocktail and crab legs. We devoured a pound of shrimp and a pound each of crab legs. I feasted like a queen!<br />
<br />
What a perfect day! I couldn't ask for a more relaxing day. I truly am blessed and so thankful for my life.<br />
<br />
Happy Mother's Day to all of the strong and brave mothers out there. I wanted to use some paper maché eggs that I had thrifted and to try using a rather unusual collage material.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4JvfVETDj6_fpOiWTDBn95ECrtatnGasSK4VozNmZzDqsKtqtg4pkq0R5hSiHlx5O_fNapFToIA34CvuLIMvCSL-JvK0Qv7tFwLd77AwSN_OzQHrSGKTinEYXrC0U8dLAbEocX-LPcjU/s1600/Painted_Easter_Eggs.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4JvfVETDj6_fpOiWTDBn95ECrtatnGasSK4VozNmZzDqsKtqtg4pkq0R5hSiHlx5O_fNapFToIA34CvuLIMvCSL-JvK0Qv7tFwLd77AwSN_OzQHrSGKTinEYXrC0U8dLAbEocX-LPcjU/s1600/Painted_Easter_Eggs.gif" /></a></div>
I began with some lovely French images from the <a href="http://thegraphicsfairy.com/category/french-typography/">Graphics Fairy</a>. Now here is the unusual collage part, I had some {unused} toilet seat covers that were not properly die cut so as to make them impractical for their intended purpose. These were to be discarded from the office so I saved a couple of sheets to experiment with. I trimmed a seat cover into an 8" x 10 1/2" sheet and taped the corners to a standard piece of printer paper. I ran this through my inkjet printer to transfer the French graphics onto the very lightweight tissue surface.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivKCJDSwLz_vIowkjPe-ORjaQUmna4_q-Rb15PIoQ4npnb1egShfUt1-2N9R5c3Uw5ec3uR4pePdy3C-DIvf4uQ6AyDcSq1hpKechf1vDMkqvQ6V05_r8a1_8003bC6fE7S84mcgu-_Jc/s1600/Graphics_Fairy.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivKCJDSwLz_vIowkjPe-ORjaQUmna4_q-Rb15PIoQ4npnb1egShfUt1-2N9R5c3Uw5ec3uR4pePdy3C-DIvf4uQ6AyDcSq1hpKechf1vDMkqvQ6V05_r8a1_8003bC6fE7S84mcgu-_Jc/s1600/Graphics_Fairy.gif" height="257" width="320" /></a></div>
I tore small sections of the tissue and used Mod Podge to create a collage on the eggs. I had to be careful because the tissue tends to disintegrate with moisture.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ6JIJJd0mhivWAEpdP9J2CWgM9vZH4_HH7QgyCneKpxQIxVKFtidGL06SS8Y9yDVIc-t8prV_nF3DhHVf3kwk-JXg_YGlWt__BjuTJuuvNUGFBZD0yyXs-IcxdQLXTg_UYl1c0H6Z70c/s1600/modpodge.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ6JIJJd0mhivWAEpdP9J2CWgM9vZH4_HH7QgyCneKpxQIxVKFtidGL06SS8Y9yDVIc-t8prV_nF3DhHVf3kwk-JXg_YGlWt__BjuTJuuvNUGFBZD0yyXs-IcxdQLXTg_UYl1c0H6Z70c/s1600/modpodge.gif" height="261" width="320" /></a></div>
After the eggs were dry, I applied a light coat of Distress Paint.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWjm9B00idKs83EUsBG2T6_yhhbSMSC7Xtjad5kTGLt-3l4hwC2TXKVfeYad77_jm51-EDEUE7bopogSrbKrRt1ZdfMZKm0PrsuS-7dqDKgLfYu_1ERweiT8ToWTgT_FfOksZ6hNAHbdc/s1600/Painted_eggs.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWjm9B00idKs83EUsBG2T6_yhhbSMSC7Xtjad5kTGLt-3l4hwC2TXKVfeYad77_jm51-EDEUE7bopogSrbKrRt1ZdfMZKm0PrsuS-7dqDKgLfYu_1ERweiT8ToWTgT_FfOksZ6hNAHbdc/s1600/Painted_eggs.gif" height="279" width="320" /></a></div>
To add some interest to the painted surface, I doodled on each egg using gold Sizzix <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660542/sizzix-inksheets-4-x-6-transfer-film-5-assorted-sheets">InkSheets</a>. I also added some gold ribbon, washi tape, lace and vintage buttons to finish off each egg.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrblAAKJkKos5BUgaBPyCOSMBOWHJ4gZf2j8i1oqUM1XhWQgV76XBXu9Xhn5m7q7ghokAFTZAz0hubuUerrdA7iImKevuc08lSHXsPxD1q6SCSszV98hVTmOBwZivE0koBgLi8_GC9VRk/s1600/purple_orange.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrblAAKJkKos5BUgaBPyCOSMBOWHJ4gZf2j8i1oqUM1XhWQgV76XBXu9Xhn5m7q7ghokAFTZAz0hubuUerrdA7iImKevuc08lSHXsPxD1q6SCSszV98hVTmOBwZivE0koBgLi8_GC9VRk/s1600/purple_orange.gif" height="322" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
This was the first time that I used the InkSheets and I could see some fun possibilities. I also learned that it is possible to print on very thin tissue. If you try using either technique, please add a comment and let me know what you think. Hope everyone had a fun weekend.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-54563656471117527302015-03-16T19:29:00.001-07:002015-03-16T21:48:37.282-07:00Happy Serendipity Thrifting Day!I had a planned vacation day off from work last Friday and was fortunate to find an estate sale listing vintage buttons. It was truly a stroke of serendipity and it even got better!<br />
<br />
While searching for the buttons I came across the most awesome stash of more Pyrex bowls. Not just any Pyrex bowls but a Green Dot Pyrex bowl, two yellow Rainbow Stripe bowls and one blue Rainbow Stripe bowl. You might remember my estate sale <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2014/05/an-amazing-week.html">horror story</a> of another buyer grabbing two Pyrex Dot bowls from me last year. The bowl that the seller took away from me was a Green Dot Pyrex bowl just like this one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijaypxKcYuUi57HvewfW7bdKKDk4KE7Y_tHcY5FoTgEspMGobUGM0axn6cimLijZrY0iSYtL6Io8FUff2PMdAiFvwz1C9Vr9Wm_xLn0qOlcOTxZ9asHd-zmMZum80dP4ifsCfOWawkHMI/s1600/Pyrex_bowls.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijaypxKcYuUi57HvewfW7bdKKDk4KE7Y_tHcY5FoTgEspMGobUGM0axn6cimLijZrY0iSYtL6Io8FUff2PMdAiFvwz1C9Vr9Wm_xLn0qOlcOTxZ9asHd-zmMZum80dP4ifsCfOWawkHMI/s1600/Pyrex_bowls.gif" height="292" width="400" /></a></div>
Wasn't it just last week that I said that I needed to stop buying so much Pyrex? This was an example of true serendipity though. Another buyer was standing near these and just walked away uninterested so I casually swooped in and happily bought them.<br />
<br />

<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
I also gleefully found a stash of old buttons plus some sewing notions. I love the pale pink measuring tape. I sorted the buttons later and found some nice pieces.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: center;">

<br />
The only other treasure I found were these old jointed bisque dolls from Japan. I'm not sure what I am going to do with these but I thought they were so cute and in need of some clothing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These rest of the weekend was spent at my son's first car race of the season. The car had mechanical problems but the mini-trip was fun. We sat in the shade and relaxed in the heat while the boys tinkered with the race car.<br />

California is known as earthquake country and nowhere else it is as dramatic as the famous Vasquez Rocks near Santa Clarita, California. In some places the rocks are almost perpendicular to the horizon. These rock formations have been used as the setting for many television shows and movie.<br />

He had us playing with all of his different surface materials to see how they perform. My absolute favorite was the <a href="http://rangerink.com/?product=ranger-foil-sheets">Shiny Foil Transfer Sheets</a>, the <a href="http://rangerink.com/?product=tim-holtz-distress-specialty-stamping-paper">Distress Specialty Stamping Paper</a> and Clearly for Art {moldable plastic film}.<br />
<br />
He explained the surfaces and then let us play. We weren't supposed to create a final project but I ended up composing this quick piece using the Sizzix <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/659577/sizzix-bigz-die-w-texture-fades-layered-bee">Layered Bee</a> die and Texture Fade. Behind the large bee is a stamped butterfly using the gold transfer foil. The horizontal band is a piece of thin wood. The center of the background is embossed vellum. All of this is mounted on corrugated paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQj5xV2GFgEN9go1nlcHiKkaodOYeuldLYVgJo-xrL3XGd2ZHRKMifhCl2wLIewh0ciYm3SLMbn03TvdjDIzlqiguVw-XyB3bCw5Y5AnrQzpsUGou1c4uX-oeLWEm85Q05cl48u5Oz9i8/s1600/Sizzix_bee.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQj5xV2GFgEN9go1nlcHiKkaodOYeuldLYVgJo-xrL3XGd2ZHRKMifhCl2wLIewh0ciYm3SLMbn03TvdjDIzlqiguVw-XyB3bCw5Y5AnrQzpsUGou1c4uX-oeLWEm85Q05cl48u5Oz9i8/s1600/Sizzix_bee.gif" /></a></div>
But wait! There's more fun to this week!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Lately I have been trying to cut back on my thrifting adventures. I am working on a personal design project so I can't dedicate as much time to my blog and store. That means that everything I thrift tends to fill up my house instead of going into the store which ultimately means either I thrift less or I will become a hoarder. But the weather was so beautiful today so we had to get out and do just a wee bit of thrifting.<br />
<br />
My favorite find was more Pyrex.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBVNTencHP4Weibp78tzYXbErmPoxrA96Rxe1SOTTcAdbn2fRliNMhzM2jLssuT_cAeOjuy9dLMEwBjBoC_GESHntcasHIaxPubZPZXeVhaV8myfMSjh1nrSWrpsciYCfwStcYeKf_Hus/s1600/Pyrex.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBVNTencHP4Weibp78tzYXbErmPoxrA96Rxe1SOTTcAdbn2fRliNMhzM2jLssuT_cAeOjuy9dLMEwBjBoC_GESHntcasHIaxPubZPZXeVhaV8myfMSjh1nrSWrpsciYCfwStcYeKf_Hus/s1600/Pyrex.gif" height="317" width="400" /></a></div>
We found the yellow Garden Medley bowl and Butterfly Gold cups at the local flea market. The prices were too good to pass up. I had never seen the Garden Medley covered bowl pattern before because it is a more uncommon promotional piece. It has white tulips and roses on a bright yellow background.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeiOzEGwGn3giRYXeKgHSbe4pMFl4ZnP2hFW-qgau-N05kjbFlpbFeg0unx_Tl02D-x1XK0eIB7R53EcrCrMafwdSGKxKjIO1hGpvgVY4F38e1nri8aOaPSj8ufXmwfIGs3xZx3EN7BSs/s1600/Goodwill_Pyrex.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeiOzEGwGn3giRYXeKgHSbe4pMFl4ZnP2hFW-qgau-N05kjbFlpbFeg0unx_Tl02D-x1XK0eIB7R53EcrCrMafwdSGKxKjIO1hGpvgVY4F38e1nri8aOaPSj8ufXmwfIGs3xZx3EN7BSs/s1600/Goodwill_Pyrex.gif" height="244" width="320" /></a></div>
The divided covered dishes were scooped up at my local Goodwill. Why oh why do I keep collecting Pyrex!!! I have some aqua pieces that I actually use. I have a large collection of the golds and browns that I will sell. And I seem to have also acquired quite a bit of pieces in green that will also be sold. Seriously! I don't have space to keep collecting but I do love the thrill of the hunt!<br />
<br />
The last thing I found was this cute enamelware dish with a red wagon and stars. I don't know how old it is but think it will be a perfect decorative accent to use for the Fourth of July.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigjmClce8oeQFqkwOOLQ78K5Ze4xOPOs5qzb6oQtnbllR0EXrqcMn6l0-hKT9fQtMuS9FyoywBGp55TqiUREhYG-Wot-O7HYDQQkFz5B5gcW7bhQOHpcJF3xl98TkYp_CC3vJhGrHS4eE/s1600/Enamel_plate.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigjmClce8oeQFqkwOOLQ78K5Ze4xOPOs5qzb6oQtnbllR0EXrqcMn6l0-hKT9fQtMuS9FyoywBGp55TqiUREhYG-Wot-O7HYDQQkFz5B5gcW7bhQOHpcJF3xl98TkYp_CC3vJhGrHS4eE/s1600/Enamel_plate.gif" height="377" width="400" /></a></div>

We decided to have a low-key Valentine's Day although my Dear Handyman does tend to spoil me all year long.<br />
<br />
The weekend before Valentine's Day he took me to the Rose Bowl Flea Market in Pasadena. It was awesome and the weather was perfect.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYucZ2zLr9wzZX-jeRahEexY41n8jKul9lSNMNnY-zd58T4ELLhKOARl77Ck_Xtbc3cx48YypdYDFFDaQFbe3oWjUdIaZ7ZTyImRi_V4KhPJnD7Zj4QMMVE5a2rt2SJiLifWUIG5CR1tA/s1600/Rose_Bowl_flea_market.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYucZ2zLr9wzZX-jeRahEexY41n8jKul9lSNMNnY-zd58T4ELLhKOARl77Ck_Xtbc3cx48YypdYDFFDaQFbe3oWjUdIaZ7ZTyImRi_V4KhPJnD7Zj4QMMVE5a2rt2SJiLifWUIG5CR1tA/s1600/Rose_Bowl_flea_market.gif" height="335" width="400" /></a></div>
We only walked about a third of the flea market before we were too exhausted to keep going. Since we live relatively close to the Rose Bowl we can always come back the following month for more discoveries.<br />
<br />
I am trying to only purchase the things that I want for my personal collection. I was thrilled to find another vintage glove mold. It is the one laying down in front. It was just slightly too tall for the shelf. I need to adjust the shelves but for right now it will lay flat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQr4SItyeMvz57b8u5SVd6NsZItY7STNH0su23y_dwCFzUQ6ohyotG9R5OVjyiExu7D_UXIQ9euFzZlxhpc_J1xCsWtqXSQStWihoUOxWVRrFDbIc8S0dhVQaZTQmnO7O2ebtDEQSsDA8/s1600/Glove_molds.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQr4SItyeMvz57b8u5SVd6NsZItY7STNH0su23y_dwCFzUQ6ohyotG9R5OVjyiExu7D_UXIQ9euFzZlxhpc_J1xCsWtqXSQStWihoUOxWVRrFDbIc8S0dhVQaZTQmnO7O2ebtDEQSsDA8/s1600/Glove_molds.gif" height="368" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />

That was the weekend before Valentine's Day. On Valentine's Day Dear Handyman had to work but afterwards we had crab legs for dinner to celebrate. Awesome!<br />

Then today we spent the day at the Long Beach Antique Market. Another beautiful weekend although it got a little hot later in the day. Here is Dear Handyman checking out a fun little car with the back of Veteran's Stadium in the background. We walked about half of this flea market before the heat got to us. Again, this is relatively close to us so we can always come back next month.<br />

I kept finding unique Pyrex bowls but I didn't buy them. I don't want to start a collection at full retail prices. The one thing I did buy was an industrial stage light fixture. I have been looking for a small one for almost three years. I had found an <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2012/05/serendipity-thrifting.html">Otto Engineering Co. surveyor's tripod</a> at an estate sale and always wanted to use it as a lamp base. We saw this light fixture and knew it would work together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Just one more project for Dear Handyman.<br />

You can see the post <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2014/02/wonder-womans-birthday.html">here</a>. This is what I made for her birthday last year. The name plate is made out of Scrabble tiles and an old ruler and the Wonder Woman figurine is hand-painted on wood.<br />

Well, my dear friend Jen is featured in the Feb/Mar/Apr 2015 issue of <i>Where Women Create</i> and my little name plate and Wonder Woman are in one of the photos.<br />

Jen is such a talented artist. I'm so proud of her. It was amazing to see her featured in my favorite magazine. And it was exciting to see my art appear there as well.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-58415808539146358172015-01-25T13:14:00.000-08:002015-01-25T22:39:27.134-08:00Southern California ThriftingWe woke on Saturday to the most beautiful weather. The warm winds that we call the Santa Ana's, were blowing and the day seemed full of possibilities. We needed to get out of the house and enjoy this beautiful day. Our destination ended up being South along the California Coast then inland towards Fallbrook and Valley Center.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgHWLh4ahCG_ODbGdbWT11JJUGoHvSfogj0m0C1LfOAbLARhY3AexzoH9QswOco7Eu6hfw6YTVFWZwCMM-AIfqPccwbdUPxTDybBqSziI3k20o_0nDB7YXA0Y97nOu_dINRu5-FmhEuwA/s1600/California_Coast.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgHWLh4ahCG_ODbGdbWT11JJUGoHvSfogj0m0C1LfOAbLARhY3AexzoH9QswOco7Eu6hfw6YTVFWZwCMM-AIfqPccwbdUPxTDybBqSziI3k20o_0nDB7YXA0Y97nOu_dINRu5-FmhEuwA/s1600/California_Coast.gif" height="216" width="320" /></a></div>
The Pacific Ocean was so lovely in the distance.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Our first stop was breakfast in Fallbrook, a tiny, farming community nestled halfway between San Diego and Orange County. We found a quaint restaurant called Main Street Cafe and enjoyed Eggs Benedict.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We continued further inland until we arrived at our destination, <a href="http://matildasmouse.com/">Matilda's Mouse</a>. Named after their mascot dog, Matilda's Mouse is located in a historic barn filled with curated antiques. They are open only once a month and is situated in the middle of nowhere but it is worth the drive especially on such a lovely day.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I know that my New Year's Resolution is to Live With Less but...<br />
When you find something on your Thrifting Wish List how can you walk away especially after having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day on Friday.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUikow7yjdMQ5QX5F7cYNN6t6o4Xbc69mkIuZT6zgtaAyIjPRV7EPE8wDe2EeNGuqvJg7y1yF7c6uN-22sa7vT6o8wCmeQRd2kzzS2OKfRKoFTrdnEGIMOhaIrjrKA13iShK5mA6el-O4/s1600/Basket2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUikow7yjdMQ5QX5F7cYNN6t6o4Xbc69mkIuZT6zgtaAyIjPRV7EPE8wDe2EeNGuqvJg7y1yF7c6uN-22sa7vT6o8wCmeQRd2kzzS2OKfRKoFTrdnEGIMOhaIrjrKA13iShK5mA6el-O4/s1600/Basket2.gif" height="305" width="320" /></a></div>
I found this amazing folding canvas basket. It is in really good condition with a metal and wood handle. It was just too nice to pass up. So much for my New Year's Resolution.<br />
<br />
The drive home was just as beautiful. This part of California is hilly, rocky and dotted with homes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAR9_0UyIWOY0ZKOL7-4n9YoNaIDysMObanDSsgsExuITj9G40PQBH3vvRh23XgYSahSOQ9S8SxMnAqTjdBS7KAgJ8dKxNLyPq6S-WfuvRyLpmBmCiXobRp3vhhy_QBWSgiBmTysuOi4/s1600/Landscape.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtAR9_0UyIWOY0ZKOL7-4n9YoNaIDysMObanDSsgsExuITj9G40PQBH3vvRh23XgYSahSOQ9S8SxMnAqTjdBS7KAgJ8dKxNLyPq6S-WfuvRyLpmBmCiXobRp3vhhy_QBWSgiBmTysuOi4/s1600/Landscape.gif" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
It was a beautiful day trip and I really love the folding basket. I'm not sure if I would actually use it while shopping at an estate sale. I would hate to tear it. I think it will be more of a decorator piece.<br />
<br />
I just need to discard more things to justify adding the folding basket to my collection.<br />

<br />
I decided that I needed a simple pouch that I could clip to my ID lanyard. To keep it simple, I made it out of thrifted felt and my <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660067/sizzix-bigz-die-fox">Fox die</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3yUG3i0kTSfQpUi4wEqVArJrGVRJIMU5ydVi9VSEHGa6Bd1ou148yGKpMHnK8xFtSPNLzq7Feo2I9VYvcdTZq95w-Sqq02ecByKNobuILgraj12mCz3jmckQzTxblgIfXJKiyZBdOY0Y/s1600/fox_iphone.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3yUG3i0kTSfQpUi4wEqVArJrGVRJIMU5ydVi9VSEHGa6Bd1ou148yGKpMHnK8xFtSPNLzq7Feo2I9VYvcdTZq95w-Sqq02ecByKNobuILgraj12mCz3jmckQzTxblgIfXJKiyZBdOY0Y/s1600/fox_iphone.gif" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
The dark pink pouch is a piece of felt cut to 4" x 12". The scalloped, light pink edge was die cut using the <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/656627/sizzix-on-the-edge-die-scallops">Scallops On the Edge die</a>.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh31qjEw-n66ufSBIK2lkGGHNfp5qCdeGyC5hLzg49mOjui1Y4LLZ79lZEKDGGfTRAke3OZJNVBWGOyQ2zp8J1eYS3fIwUcm0uiEWBeOxuzZiF1X5izxMrf7pP5iC1-2wGBjlvEO8xQJPk/s1600/fox_stitching.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh31qjEw-n66ufSBIK2lkGGHNfp5qCdeGyC5hLzg49mOjui1Y4LLZ79lZEKDGGfTRAke3OZJNVBWGOyQ2zp8J1eYS3fIwUcm0uiEWBeOxuzZiF1X5izxMrf7pP5iC1-2wGBjlvEO8xQJPk/s1600/fox_stitching.gif" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
With the pouch unfolded, I laid out the fox pieces on one half of the pouch and used embroidery floss to simply stitch around the edge of the fox. The die is very versatile so you can have him standing, sitting or with his tail curled up under his chin. I stitched him standing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAMt1kyjLkFcvRt_ThhPhw8wB5GwQHgpI2F-Uiq00dXXL2QbfAS-VOmjvhOcctZ0SQ2dMXus1dcz5DnuQ2CkyzHaACAWXBTYZZTkbw0blBuhQqNPljdkDuc2BzjCeMzLLxUNGlvVB4VL8/s1600/fox_eye.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAMt1kyjLkFcvRt_ThhPhw8wB5GwQHgpI2F-Uiq00dXXL2QbfAS-VOmjvhOcctZ0SQ2dMXus1dcz5DnuQ2CkyzHaACAWXBTYZZTkbw0blBuhQqNPljdkDuc2BzjCeMzLLxUNGlvVB4VL8/s1600/fox_eye.gif" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I did a small green chain stitch and French knots along the edge of the scallop border. And I quickly stitched down the eyes and nose.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHe9hVGNwQ6JyBzgoJawdXznQDlSth5w1uWz5CUYBcP4qRYJ9ddyZ6lBh42_8ERJ7s3k8aCLlTOQW_VXacejRTzdTs6HIDedBfAAKSW-gHl5POHheGgV3MiijXv02JP2bnCBf_8ic3TOo/s1600/fox_edging.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHe9hVGNwQ6JyBzgoJawdXznQDlSth5w1uWz5CUYBcP4qRYJ9ddyZ6lBh42_8ERJ7s3k8aCLlTOQW_VXacejRTzdTs6HIDedBfAAKSW-gHl5POHheGgV3MiijXv02JP2bnCBf_8ic3TOo/s1600/fox_edging.gif" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
I folded the dark pink felt in half along the bottom, right side out and used a contrasting embroidery floss to blanket stitch around the sides. I also stitched a key ring Finding in the top left corner to attach it to my lanyard.<br />
<br />
I made one for myself to wear at the trade show and I made one as a gift for Brenda Walton.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis9s2W6tICs8RL3YZSzwIFmeVi2aCbavOgLRiN-OzBB4WtC2d9_ZJ_pK_vGyvv_Pmghpvl8lgziOK-QAXkAmez3JdooAv-3MKH6nsygkBCpZMxFsqjeV9UHHLPeG5Qzm6DEJinp3pYvRg/s1600/Brenda_Walton.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis9s2W6tICs8RL3YZSzwIFmeVi2aCbavOgLRiN-OzBB4WtC2d9_ZJ_pK_vGyvv_Pmghpvl8lgziOK-QAXkAmez3JdooAv-3MKH6nsygkBCpZMxFsqjeV9UHHLPeG5Qzm6DEJinp3pYvRg/s1600/Brenda_Walton.gif" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This was so easy to make and was exceptionally handy to hold my phone, keys and business cards.<br />

I hope I never lose the excitement of attending the Craft and Hobby Association trade show. It is only open to the craft trade and I am the biggest craft gawker so attending the show is like being a kid in a candy store.<br />
<br />
If you follow my blog then you will know that I am a Tim Holtz fan girl. Adore the man! I watch his demos and learn so much. I work with him and learn even more. He is amazing.<br />

If you follow his site then you know all of the amazing new product that he is coming out with for 2015. I loved his papers for his letter writing line.<br />

For my own personal crafting, I have been trying to wrap my head around the Pocket Page scrapbooking trend. Oh so simple yet I have such an exceptionally goofy time with it. Here is my problem, because I am a graphic designer, I am proficient with Adobe Photoshop. I find that I spend way too much time editing, retouching, cropping and sizing my photos to fit the pocket pages. It isn't simple any longer.<br />
<br />
So now imagine me standing in front of the Becky Higgins, Project Life booth at CHA. I am staring at this beautiful display of all of her new designs. A woman comes up and offers me a catalog and asks if I know about Pocket Pages. I explain my story with all of my goofy problem. She asks if it would help me if she had Becky come over to talk to me. GASP! Uh, okay, I'll wait right here I reply.<br />
<br />
Next thing I know someone taps my arm and standing next to me is THE Becky Higgins! She asks about what problems I have, I tell her my goofy story again and Becky Higgins herself suggests that I print all of my photos at 4"x6" and start from there. I thank her, we take a photo, she signs a card and I feel like the biggest craft gawker ever.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

But wait, there's more craft geek confessions!<br />
<br />
Brenda Walton had sent me the most lovely, hand-painted bird Christmas ornament over the holiday. It was truly a work of art by such a talented artist. I had to make her something as a thank you gift. I made her {and myself - project images to follow on another day} a little felt clip-on pouch using my <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660067/sizzix-bigz-die-fox">Fox die</a>. She is so sweet and so talented.<br />

I also had the opportunity to visit with my dear friend <a href="http://www.stephaniebarnardstamps.com/index.htm">Stephanie Barnar</a>d. We had to take a silly photo as a joke. Posted on my wall at work is my very first photo with Tim Holtz. He made the silliest face in that photo which is why it is posted. Stephanie always jokes with me that I needed to post a photo of the two of us as well and I said that I would only do it if she made a funny face with me. So here is Stephanie and I being silly. Why does she still look so cute and I just look silly?<br />

I can finally share a little of what I've been working on for the past few months. Check out <a href="http://timholtz.com/cha-2015-sneak-peeks-sizzix/">Tim Holtz's sneak peek</a> for his Sizzix Alterations Winter 2015 line.<br />
<br />
I created all of his Sizzix packaging shown as well as his catalog {cover only shown}. It is so exciting to see everything come together on his site.<br />
<br />
My favorite die is the Thinlits Mixed Media set. The package image is the tone-on-tone one with a beehive pattern on the right corner. It includes four dies that cut these great shapes out of a background. Awesome! Must have!<br />
<br />
And wait until you see what he does with all of those word dies. Seriously, I must have those as well.<br />
<br />
CHA starts this week in Anaheim, CA and I have my pass! I will post photos from the show. I am such a craft geek! I'm just waiting to defy gravity.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-61045446655465740072015-01-04T16:41:00.000-08:002015-01-04T16:41:52.351-08:00Living With Less in 2015!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

2015 started off with great intentions. My 2015 goal is to <b>Live With Less</b> beginning right now.<br />
<br />
Well, that was my intention on December 31st around 8 p.m. I started cleaning one part of my Studio. I was quite happy with the results.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgonYQu9BnFBQl-KXUGIBHZ3tfp_PVW__tLNhKF10aRomUL9TQO8OPWh9QXfxpRUFQa7H-wMfPQ-TcwfCo2drjfyr7kIXKnH0lTWdQDaELS7n90Q9n78InDKsRxfryeKLVxyRBQREiHLwc/s1600/49.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgonYQu9BnFBQl-KXUGIBHZ3tfp_PVW__tLNhKF10aRomUL9TQO8OPWh9QXfxpRUFQa7H-wMfPQ-TcwfCo2drjfyr7kIXKnH0lTWdQDaELS7n90Q9n78InDKsRxfryeKLVxyRBQREiHLwc/s1600/49.gif" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
This was photographed around 11:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve. As an introvert, I am much more comfortable being home than being around a crowd of people. <br />
<br />
On New Year's Day I started decluttering the work area in my Studio. This is no small task for a life-long crafter. It was filled with happy discoveries for future projects but I was able to discard many supplies I no longer want. Here is my work desk. I've been scrapbooking for 26 years but I'm only now trying pocket page scrapbooking. I organized my pre-cut cards in vintage glass refrigerator dishes on my work table just to remind me what I have to work with. My L-shaped work surface has about 150 Tilt Bins on the surrounding walls. Great to hold small supplies but they also tend to get filled and forgotten. These will have to be another day's project.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2zg7-e8RIgXJdBCTUtSCMhqooUQGZlnoS0uRofLH8V3y7dg49C7q2rMFqexBxjH9IkIdu9indt8oVYHM6No2qob20AIJVIiRUHSP5XXdsQJxHGCoWV9TnyXWK4fDUS3ZwlkXktrRDYS4/s1600/Studio.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2zg7-e8RIgXJdBCTUtSCMhqooUQGZlnoS0uRofLH8V3y7dg49C7q2rMFqexBxjH9IkIdu9indt8oVYHM6No2qob20AIJVIiRUHSP5XXdsQJxHGCoWV9TnyXWK4fDUS3ZwlkXktrRDYS4/s1600/Studio.png" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
Later that day I intended to declutter some shelves in my living room but Dear Handyman {who is the world's best organizer} got involved and the entire living room/dining room got a make over. Lots of stuff got sent off to Goodwill but this allowed my favorite stuff to be placed on display.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO5ZVF64Bn41cH3YNj8V35mmeoxCwf0Ab0QrMPJp4JXG2xVMAS3RbzEA3nhyzAIOWV34kRikDRpewrxCksmzmE7WBU-TNHYVvTGDyBjnOY_0tfxptNzs6ir1atXX0b3qZrKQallFO1Q_I/s1600/Trophies.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhO5ZVF64Bn41cH3YNj8V35mmeoxCwf0Ab0QrMPJp4JXG2xVMAS3RbzEA3nhyzAIOWV34kRikDRpewrxCksmzmE7WBU-TNHYVvTGDyBjnOY_0tfxptNzs6ir1atXX0b3qZrKQallFO1Q_I/s1600/Trophies.png" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I said at the beginning of this post, the year started off with the best of intentions...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then I got sick. My only symptom was an on-again, off-again fever for three days. Today is the first day that I have felt well enough to sit up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But back to my goals for 2015. I've been reading a lot about Tiny Houses and I love looking at photos of how people organize their lives into tiny homes. Then I realized that my home could be considered a tiny house if you go by the square footage. I wanted my house to look as nice as those tiny houses but I realized that I have too much Stuff. That's when I decided that I needed to <b>Live With Less</b>. This then led me to a site called <a href="http://www.discardia.com/2003/09/getting_rid_of_.html">Discardia</a>.com. I still have a long way to go but I have an entire year to get there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My goal is to learn to <b>Live With Less</b> by letting go of as much as possible. If I don't love it or find it useful {which includes using it as an art project} then it will be discarded {donated, sold or trashed}. I have not yet come to terms with how this will affect my love of thrifting but until I get my life decluttered I will keep lightening my life. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2015 is going to be an awesome year! </div>
Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-10583660508721368302014-12-22T20:33:00.001-08:002014-12-27T15:29:49.555-08:00Ornament Exchange - Dream CatcherThis is the fourth year that my sister and I are exchanging handmade themed ornaments. Here are some of the past ornaments that I have made. <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2010/12/recycled-book-christmas-ornament.html">Book</a>, <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2012/12/designers-craft-connection-blog-hop.html">Paper Clock</a> and <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2013/12/down-to-wire-for-merry-christmas.html">Cotton China</a>. Beginning from the Paper Clock, we started the themes based on the <a href="http://www.hallmark.com/anniversary/ideas/anniversary-gift-ideas/">wedding anniversary gift </a>suggestion. The first year being either Paper {traditional gift} or Clock {modern}. I like to create the ornaments using both themes.<br />
<br />
This is the third year {again, not counting the first Book ornament} so the anniversary gift suggestion is Leather {traditional} or Crystal {modern}. We also added a twist this year because we both bought old player piano rolls while thrifting in Las Vegas recently so we agreed to add the piano roll paper to this year's ornament.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF_d4FNWO7mnxougPGT_Ws6OMovXFHj0Y7yeFQC2pvwBWHopM__7kVPj38oHM0txarRADywqnbGPAk6l3mk195ajtrF2wxWgLlBSIHhWnlxQz2AQ-pYOQTzZHYIxwkl8NpWHoX_2HOkWc/s1600/Dream_Catcher.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF_d4FNWO7mnxougPGT_Ws6OMovXFHj0Y7yeFQC2pvwBWHopM__7kVPj38oHM0txarRADywqnbGPAk6l3mk195ajtrF2wxWgLlBSIHhWnlxQz2AQ-pYOQTzZHYIxwkl8NpWHoX_2HOkWc/s1600/Dream_Catcher.gif" height="640" width="320" /></a></div>
I made a Dream Catcher ornament.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I started with a small wooden hoop that was part of a thrifted embroidery hoop. I used leather cording that is normally used in jewelry making for the center part of the dream catcher. I started with a loop at the top then began tying five double half-hitches along the hoop. Ah, memories of my macrame years.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC9__3IaYGdVCu6dlI-JCS8zB8DVPgQVIvoPS8l2mGXPq9lxNtINYOOcBBz38YHs2G7kFk3k923P0XPl80fuS-GcNhR5lu6HmwYN85lHuwR_1JC7eFuBmXQO3w2YNcbWGZkf7CgSw_jEk/s1600/web.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC9__3IaYGdVCu6dlI-JCS8zB8DVPgQVIvoPS8l2mGXPq9lxNtINYOOcBBz38YHs2G7kFk3k923P0XPl80fuS-GcNhR5lu6HmwYN85lHuwR_1JC7eFuBmXQO3w2YNcbWGZkf7CgSw_jEk/s1600/web.gif" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
When I got back to the top I continued to loop it around the center between each double half-hitch until I got to the center and tied it off.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeMPKWb3691vfE-KWrWRahqMV_-BExGaR6QS-uGfmOweAZqAOcy-tMCuoCpBhyphenhyphenkwOc5FOJjIzxncnggKVlp9pEjAgn2eEb-WfOP0mX00ImIWS_c9UENiUNRKl6hpD316iG0iFWefpDMXw/s1600/Supplies.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeMPKWb3691vfE-KWrWRahqMV_-BExGaR6QS-uGfmOweAZqAOcy-tMCuoCpBhyphenhyphenkwOc5FOJjIzxncnggKVlp9pEjAgn2eEb-WfOP0mX00ImIWS_c9UENiUNRKl6hpD316iG0iFWefpDMXw/s1600/Supplies.gif" height="320" width="400" /></a></div>
Next came the "feathers". I glued strips of the music roll to both sides of a piece of <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/IDE92841.html">Grunge Paper</a>. Once it was dry, I die cut two feather shapes using the Sizzix <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/658717/sizzix-bigz-die-writing-desk">Writing Desk die</a>. I used <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/TIM19527.HTML">Distress Ink</a> in Vintage Photo, Tea Dyed and Walnut Stain to color the edges of the feather. The music roll paper added the horizontal lines on the feathers. Another option would have been to color the Grunge paper before applying the music roll paper so that the color would have shown through the holes in the music sheet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNs_HX4y21PfbVwjKfA_rVBWi5ccQ9QiEvxZcdDKrYor1-yyRcWFObHxqeI7QG_0jAEhuboZ_77AonkJJT_Xi0BqMeMZBdJAJR6RMHwgwI1-HcdTQngs2ukFWnXStqKPiL5zA9lndQTlI/s1600/feathers.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNs_HX4y21PfbVwjKfA_rVBWi5ccQ9QiEvxZcdDKrYor1-yyRcWFObHxqeI7QG_0jAEhuboZ_77AonkJJT_Xi0BqMeMZBdJAJR6RMHwgwI1-HcdTQngs2ukFWnXStqKPiL5zA9lndQTlI/s1600/feathers.gif" height="400" width="227" /></a></div>
I wrapped twine around the ends of the feathers, strung some thrifted red beads and added a vintage chandelier crystal. Then I tied this to the bottom of the hoop to complete the ornament.<br />
<br />
As I write this, I am baking over 250 shortbread cookies to give to my wonderful neighbors. The house smells good and everything feels so warm. I love Christmas!<br />

Somewhere, in the stack of crafting to-do ideas, was the desire to create my own unique Putz Houses.<br />
<br />
I finally decided to design a Putz Cabin as a gift.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgerMdlPtshdtlYhRgTdh8UYie4qPt3lVx4f7jzTgvqWVlyu20-j1yJRWd5Ij46mRPpjst5V6t1H_Zicgeib-NPsx34dTfpewKt6a0-_Jiq9ROziku4Mt5J-UajsakkxaxvtcoyH8JgtrA/s1600/Putz_cabin.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgerMdlPtshdtlYhRgTdh8UYie4qPt3lVx4f7jzTgvqWVlyu20-j1yJRWd5Ij46mRPpjst5V6t1H_Zicgeib-NPsx34dTfpewKt6a0-_Jiq9ROziku4Mt5J-UajsakkxaxvtcoyH8JgtrA/s1600/Putz_cabin.gif" height="292" width="400" /></a></div>
I started with a base cut from the plastic packaging of a <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/659377/sizzix-framelits-die-set-5pk-w-stamps-retro-christmas">Sizzix Alterations stamp</a> and die set. It was sturdy yet light. I cut the house frame from thick cardstock.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnWmfFLtIFTCyMJoRmq_eQ-Ujl3NkDOOAHcHYcOnblKwaHIXrOWE5z3Cv9Z2Wnp-Ctdq6emsBRx3UwbgNjVCJPZTAZGXLcJhhRWN3AfYNZsSavddnY2GlXUpZGWlUU1O-Vm3U41LqYSGA/s1600/Cuts.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnWmfFLtIFTCyMJoRmq_eQ-Ujl3NkDOOAHcHYcOnblKwaHIXrOWE5z3Cv9Z2Wnp-Ctdq6emsBRx3UwbgNjVCJPZTAZGXLcJhhRWN3AfYNZsSavddnY2GlXUpZGWlUU1O-Vm3U41LqYSGA/s1600/Cuts.gif" height="231" width="320" /></a></div>
I inked the cardstock but later realized that it was unnecessary. I cut the "log" sides from Starbucks cup holders. I used the inside of the corrugated cup holder and sprayed them with <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/TSS42310.HTML">Distress Stain</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqRUlCLvYOjCGOpc6H6soBbcpWwPmR2imFwPInYplaroeHdJtGWdd9yocWQT3r5M-bmO9mZZTUsha2inm3QBZdOfVyR3l_HQ5PIsv0F1ZSmGbg8cTo7QWZzSq7jNyzbKv5Asd3PjfFVm8/s1600/Windows_Folds.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqRUlCLvYOjCGOpc6H6soBbcpWwPmR2imFwPInYplaroeHdJtGWdd9yocWQT3r5M-bmO9mZZTUsha2inm3QBZdOfVyR3l_HQ5PIsv0F1ZSmGbg8cTo7QWZzSq7jNyzbKv5Asd3PjfFVm8/s1600/Windows_Folds.gif" height="241" width="320" /></a></div>
I used <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/GAC17042.html">Glossy Accent</a> to glue the corrugated sides to the house then cut the windows with the <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/659193/sizzix-movers-shapers-magnetic-die-set-2pk-windows">Windows die</a>. I added a small piece of clear plastic behind the windows and cut a green door. I also cut a roof layer out of sandpaper but later covered it with <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/INK44444.HTML">Texture Paste</a>. Next time I would leave some of the sandpaper roof showing.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcO-ndVrB8enh6DJgDMCSxytfL_c76txWHrKvOfBvwiv7BrAa8OW7d9jHNJuLWN7F6O6rT7P1esdRXwbmi0RT1JMDArYNiHKtbUiCHpt2CX_Q9uZMmUHJ4t-sr0ORPScx2rrIb-R7h43w/s1600/front.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcO-ndVrB8enh6DJgDMCSxytfL_c76txWHrKvOfBvwiv7BrAa8OW7d9jHNJuLWN7F6O6rT7P1esdRXwbmi0RT1JMDArYNiHKtbUiCHpt2CX_Q9uZMmUHJ4t-sr0ORPScx2rrIb-R7h43w/s1600/front.gif" height="286" width="400" /></a></div>
I assembled the cabin and used more Glossy Accent to attach it to the base. I die cut four fence pieces from <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/IDE92841.html">Grunge Paper</a> using the <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/657030/sizzix-on-the-edge-die-on-the-fence">On The Fence die</a> and glued them around the edge of the base leaving an opening for the "walkway". I used white acrylic paint on the fence and sprinkled Clear <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/TDG39150.HTML">Distress Glitter</a> while it was still wet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLKEa7l-aelJXOLTUOo1Td3_PxtUB-SOUPVknKiEdcT2hX462IusPEsat_xD_FTxQX-6hsOOajpJPdzvY1oXUukfdnyf-jV3DRahyEiDUEDF3fZjnuNQSL4xc9rG4vSuS6xOfZBsfX4aM/s1600/side.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLKEa7l-aelJXOLTUOo1Td3_PxtUB-SOUPVknKiEdcT2hX462IusPEsat_xD_FTxQX-6hsOOajpJPdzvY1oXUukfdnyf-jV3DRahyEiDUEDF3fZjnuNQSL4xc9rG4vSuS6xOfZBsfX4aM/s1600/side.gif" height="345" width="400" /></a></div>
I brushed Glossy Accent on the "log" sides of the cabin and added glitter. I applied Texture Paste to the roof and a small bit to the windows to look like snow on the sills then sprinkled glitter while it was still wet. The small piece of clear plastic that I added to the windows earlier helped hold the Texture Paste on the sills.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLNq4D4eEpb0QnW090zX9QJyjTHSZOijdX4etZkimlEQyTSnmtZ2FXq_OucMUBz6tZVxToLzDgs3nv5K3pdoUMN1BAV_ZcDPFQRfQ5EFWqJni44H8hLhHcAhCuIktE_7f_5-YwRCxZ41Y/s1600/putz_angle.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLNq4D4eEpb0QnW090zX9QJyjTHSZOijdX4etZkimlEQyTSnmtZ2FXq_OucMUBz6tZVxToLzDgs3nv5K3pdoUMN1BAV_ZcDPFQRfQ5EFWqJni44H8hLhHcAhCuIktE_7f_5-YwRCxZ41Y/s1600/putz_angle.gif" height="328" width="400" /></a></div>
I sprayed a <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/TH93152.HTML">bottlebrush tree</a> with <a href="http://www.inspirationemporium.com/TSS42419.HTML">Pine Needle Distress Stain</a>, rolled the bristles in a small amount of Glossy Accents and sprinkled glitter on the tree. I glued the tree to the base and then applied Texture Paste around the base of the tree and on the "ground" around the cabin. I immediately sprinkled glitter to the base.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Zu0QqdBqNHtJwqR1qQn32bAtAP-D-9I6mkgfuoGcsD0j2TnMBIvdC75_9nc7pr7SWKPGRnIiQ5FzRKeSVyQMcvsQ0-aQrlAp5XBGn_JugAi9rXFz3KhSYRLS0hQIVx3-jZ_wjnKODyI/s1600/twigs.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1Zu0QqdBqNHtJwqR1qQn32bAtAP-D-9I6mkgfuoGcsD0j2TnMBIvdC75_9nc7pr7SWKPGRnIiQ5FzRKeSVyQMcvsQ0-aQrlAp5XBGn_JugAi9rXFz3KhSYRLS0hQIVx3-jZ_wjnKODyI/s1600/twigs.gif" height="303" width="400" /></a></div>
I found two twigs, cut them to size, glued them to the base and the porch roof, brushed on Glossy Accent and sprinkled glitter. The final piece was the snowman. He is a vintage plastic cupcake pick that I glued to the base and covered in glitter.<br />
<br />
This was a fun first Putz Cabin project. This was a gift for a friend but I might make it a yearly tradition to create different Putz Houses for the holidays.<br />

I realized that I am blessed with so much right now and sometimes I need to slow down and enjoy my life.<br />
<br />
A week ago I went to the Carson Rubber Stamp Convention. It is about a 45 minute drive via the freeway so I kind of take it for granted that I can always attend it when it comes to town.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSHPdnJBcC4JmuIRuDCcaygwoXruoM1hGKujHbIFR6kYfw8KZNlnHh9ILN0V0qLYiCWMUVd9oFsyDW8XPRhYjQxShvv7tjgueC4E4W2KP9h_FETEZukgPs2mBiO_fTpMQrnuWbStuK2bU/s1600/Tim_Holtz.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSHPdnJBcC4JmuIRuDCcaygwoXruoM1hGKujHbIFR6kYfw8KZNlnHh9ILN0V0qLYiCWMUVd9oFsyDW8XPRhYjQxShvv7tjgueC4E4W2KP9h_FETEZukgPs2mBiO_fTpMQrnuWbStuK2bU/s1600/Tim_Holtz.gif" /></a></div>
But what I am truly blessed with is that I had the opportunity to spend some time with Tim Holtz. Back in August, Tim sent me a <a href="http://somethingcreatedeveryday.blogspot.com/2014/08/thank-you-tim-holtz.html">box full of goodies</a> to play with. Oh the joy! But then I began to stress about what I could possibly do to thank him for his thoughtfulness and generosity.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
I finally decided that I had to sew something for him and that it had to be made from something vintage. I made two burlap totes created from an old burlap seed bag.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNfOUStYIlSDehUV78CB5RCFrldqw0wTne664uop6Zfj7Ncxy1P2V5KluZK-UpoZPbmTbdSEd67cC40I5VULXFU_ViwnpOEVdSQYK4O5buITW_OOHcuITLFWQiCR6CQBThL6pzDquDZlM/s1600/Burlap2.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNfOUStYIlSDehUV78CB5RCFrldqw0wTne664uop6Zfj7Ncxy1P2V5KluZK-UpoZPbmTbdSEd67cC40I5VULXFU_ViwnpOEVdSQYK4O5buITW_OOHcuITLFWQiCR6CQBThL6pzDquDZlM/s1600/Burlap2.gif" height="303" width="320" /></a></div>
Then on Tuesday, Dear Handyman and I went to Las Vegas and met up with my sister and brother-in-law. They flew in from Wyoming for our family reunion. It was great to see them. My sister and I are so goofy together.<br />
<br />
The thing I just realized was that I am so blessed to have a sister that shares a history of funny memories. Our parents used to take us to Las Vegas every year when we were little. The city has changed but we aren't impressed with the lights and glamour. In fact, I only took a few photos;<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7_tJySCbDe_-BmUMEKBmqYXyIB9GkFdGO9RwNrp3yiSl3F6LB9Vmg_ida7yNJUK_5Th0_kqIPGVdurWd4s235iMux6AwBpAS0mLQ3b6U0YMqyUooG3hyiyvrqwSwNCNrgnSGVksby6dA/s1600/Fremont_Street.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7_tJySCbDe_-BmUMEKBmqYXyIB9GkFdGO9RwNrp3yiSl3F6LB9Vmg_ida7yNJUK_5Th0_kqIPGVdurWd4s235iMux6AwBpAS0mLQ3b6U0YMqyUooG3hyiyvrqwSwNCNrgnSGVksby6dA/s1600/Fremont_Street.gif" height="320" width="215" /></a></div>
This is the iconic cowboy sign on Fremont Street. That's the Plaza hotel on the far right.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We drove by the pawn shop where they film Pawn Stars. There was a line down the block.<br />

This was right under the Statosphere looking straight up. That black shape at the top center of the photo is a street light so you can get an idea of the camera angle.<br />
<br />
Instead of going to any fancy nightclubs, my sister and I went to a lot of thrift stores. Lucky for me that she enjoys thrifting and that Dear Handyman was happy to drive us all around town. I am also lucky because I found a Pyrex Zodiac covered casserole dish and a few other pieces. Plus I found some old player piano music rolls to use for altered art.<br />

I am so lucky and so blessed. Just slowing down to enjoy my life. Tomorrow I'll be back at work and dealing with all of the stress but for right now, this moment, I am counting my blessings and enjoying my life.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-16772960729265906882014-11-08T09:37:00.000-08:002014-11-08T09:37:34.093-08:00Good News: Creative Life UpdateI haven't posted anything creative or thrifty in quite a while but that is only because I haven't had time to create or thrift in quite a while. Sometimes the Universe just throws so much at you all at once and things just have to fall off your plate.<br />
<br />
My Life in Brief:<br />
Work: Finally got a promotion! It is doing all of the same things I was doing before but now getting a bump in salary. Woo hoo! I tend to take on any impossible project they think up and then get it done. A catalog created in 12 working days, Sales presentations with over 200 mockup packaging samples, A year's work of rebranding exercises... I'm on it!<br />

Design: My die designs were introduced at the <a href="http://www.prweb.com/releases/sizzix/diecutting/prweb12268140.htm">Fall International Quilt Market</a>. My <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660067/sizzix-bigz-die-fox">Fox die</a> was the Sizzix Number One seller at the show. My <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660069/sizzix-bigz-die-monster">Monster die</a> was number two.<br />

My <a href="http://www.sizzix.com/product/660074/sizzix-bigz-l-die-reindeer-head">Reindeer die</a> also sold out. {I created these examples of how to use my reindeer die. The top reindeer is me with the heart antlers. The left one is Dear Handyman. He's British so his antlers are a little different. The right one is my son who loves to tease Dear Handyman.}<br />

Freelance: I have also been doing a massive number of freelance hours. I really enjoy my freelance. It is a great opportunity to do some creative designs but I can't share anything here. I can tell you that crafters love them. I just don't have my name on any of them but that is okay.<br />
<br />
Thrifting: I've been to only a few estate sales but just haven't had the time to post anything new to my <a href="http://stufftotreasure.storenvy.com/">Stuff to Treasure store</a> but it is still full of unique vintage treasures. The holidays are coming so you might find that perfect vintage gift for someone.<br />
<br />
Personal: I am taking an emotional and mental break for a few days. I am being harassed by my Home Owner's Association which is stressful. Life is so crazy at times. When the Universe throws stuff at me, I need to stop taking it personally and just walk away. I am okay. People I care about are okay. Life is about the here and now and that is okay too.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2104875967602467426.post-47284788347602840572014-09-28T21:38:00.001-07:002014-09-28T21:39:14.159-07:00Eileen Hull and Paper TrailI ran into <a href="http://www.eileenhull.com/">Eileen Hull</a> in the middle of a Walmart parking lot tonight. Almost literally ran into her as she was walking across the parking lot.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipC_X-VgoSb7ZqU8T7Os7Muq3i8-HcYH1fgKT7GKSSAMlC_GlJ6JdK51pDlPrkw4_VO3eEYaPzJmR5SEfDBalGANIjK5mNe4qamueCm7Y_4T5sloXUyPUg7UcHZDgEGgtOQKorvP4raxw/s1600/Eileen_Hull.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipC_X-VgoSb7ZqU8T7Os7Muq3i8-HcYH1fgKT7GKSSAMlC_GlJ6JdK51pDlPrkw4_VO3eEYaPzJmR5SEfDBalGANIjK5mNe4qamueCm7Y_4T5sloXUyPUg7UcHZDgEGgtOQKorvP4raxw/s1600/Eileen_Hull.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
We had picked up a few things at Walmart and were leaving the parking lot when I saw the cutest vintage trailer with a Scotty dog on the front. I made Dear Handyman drive around the back and sure enough it said Paper Trail so I knew it was Eileen's.<br />
<br />
I took a few photos in front of Scotty and jumped back into the car. As we started to drive away again I saw a woman walking past holding an In-n-Out cup. I jumped back out of the car and ran up to greet her. Luckily we have known each other for a while or it would have been a very strange encounter.<br />
<br />
She had just experienced her first In-n-Out burger and fries for dinner. That is a totally California experience!<br />
<br />
She is in town to visit Sizzix this week. Hopefully she will come in a day early and I will have a chance to spend some time with her.<br />
<br />
Nicest person, EVER! Such a great bit of serendipity to run into her, in a Walmart parking lot.Lyndahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01357889638498051381noreply@blogger.com0
